We keep on hearing time and again how the lives of those who live by high ideals influence the lives of others quietly and imperceptibly. We find an excellent example in the life of Meera, a young and dynamic social activist involved in many a social and charitable projects in Washington, USA, who met with a violent road accident, brutally cutting short her life at the prime of her bright carrier. But her dynamic spirit lived to ignite the minds of those close to her during her lifetime and inspired them to continue the good work here in India with the same zeal with which she was carrying out her projects in the far off land of her choosing.

Meera’s uncle K.P.Bhatnagar came up with the idea to build an Old  Age Home to commemorate the memory of his loving niece, taking a cue from the many social and charitable organizations Meera was running in her lifetime to help the needy in USA.

Unusual for a person who himself is in his golden years to take such a bold decision, K.P.Bhatnagar got registered a trust ‘Shri Beni Prasad Bhatnagar Charitable Trust’ to give shape to his noble project. He named the trust after the name of his revered father Mr Beni Prasad Bhatnagar who himself was a philanthropist and an educationist active in Lucknow. His life was spent in the task of upliftment of under privileged of the society. K.P.Bhatnagar is the founder Chairman of the Trust.

The trust, backed by undaunted and resolute efforts of K.P.Bhatnagar, ably assisted by his son Sundeep Bhatnagar, is now well on way to concretise this mission after overcoming numerous difficulties. Today, “Meera’s Old Age Home” is coming up in the picturesque village, Malla Niglat which is situated at a height of 5000 feet from sea level in cool, quite and natural environment about three kilometers from the beautiful health resort of Bhowali at a distance of about 13 kilometers from the lake city of Nainital. Spread over an area of two and a half acres of residential land donated by the Trust, the home will cover an area of 32000 sq.feet. It will have sufficient build up space to house more than one hundred inmates when completed.

It is envisaged that the home will have single bed, double bed and dormitory accommodation. The trust has got the contour map of the land made and the team of architects has handed over the layout plan and architectural drawings of the building. It is estimated that the single bed accommodation in the home would cost about Rs.5000 per month which will include cost of food, lodging and other facilities.

A recreation hall capable of accommodating 150 people, a meditation hall for 200 people, a library with seating capacity of 50 and a clinic with 10 bed basic facility for patients and a medical van are also planned to be added to the infrastructure of the home.

It promises the elderly a homely atmosphere, facilities and security along with the medical aid. The trust has kept a provision of 25 beds for elders from amongst the economically weaker section. The trust will take care of them out of its own funds without compromising on the standards and services.

The estimated expenditure on this project is expected to be about 7 crores, which the trust is trying to generate through donations from willing partners. The trust is offering a life membership to those who contribute Rs.10000, while those contributing Rs.1 lac will be offered patronage. The founder Chairman, K.P.Bhatnagar himself has given the required land for building the home.

All those interested in giving their services to the needy are welcome to join the Trust by paying the contribution. K.P.Bhatnagar is available on phones:09719278067 or 0968433345 and Sundeep Bhatnagar on 09350893765. Cheques are accepted in favor of “Shri Beni Prasad Cheritable Trust”. The Delhi address of the office of the Trust is:37-A, Pocket 12, Jasola Vihar, New Delhi–110025, Phone:011-32038543. (Contributed by our Staff Reporter).

Appeal for Financial Help

The “Bhatnagar Sabha” of Ghaziabad in an appeal for financial help, appeared in the September, 2009 issue of “Bhatnagar Varta”, has requested the members of Biradari to contribute generously to fund  the medical treatment of Mudit Mohan, 19 years old son of Shri B.K.Bhatnagar who met with a serious accident at New Bus Stand, Ghaziabad on the 8th of December 2008 and is currently lying in the hospital anxiously awaiting recovery.

The accident was so serious that the stomach, thighs and legs of Mudit got badly injured. His one leg got to be amputated in a major life saving operation conducted at one of the leading hospitals of Delhi. He is yet to undergo two more major operations which are many a costly medical tests and consultations away. He is in for a leg medical treatment before he can get up from the bed and be able to do  anything worthwhile to support himself and family. His father is himself a heart patient and can hardly bear the cost of the treatment and also sustain himself and family in face of this unseemly and devastating accident.

The “All India Bhatnagar Upkarak Fund Trust” has already contributed a sum of Rs.5000, while the members of the “Bhatnagar Sabha”, Ghaziabad have contributed another Rs.10,500 towards his treatment. But, since his treatment is only half way more money is needed to enable him to gain full recovery, hence the appeal.

We at Bhatnagars-Worldwide would like to add our voice to this appeal to the members of Biradari to please come up in a big way and contribute generously to save this young boy and to help him get up from the bed as early as medically possible. Please be assured that your help will not only go a long way in saving a young boy his life, it will also build the self esteem of the biradari and boost the morale of its members. In fact such steps help build the confidence of Biradari to stand together in times of adversity, a pre-requisite for survival of any community.

You can send the amount by crossed cheque, Draft or Money Order to  Shri K.K.Bhatnagar, General Secretary, Bhatnagar Sabha, Ghaziabad at the address: II/E, Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad (U.P.), Telephones: 0120-2792929, 9811395212. (Contributed by our Staff Reporter).

While the new magazine made its debut slowly and gracefully, the old one, “Bhatnagar Samachar” is continuing to serve the community as the oldest communication link between the members of the Biradari.

The magazine was started in March 1927 as the mouth piece of the Kayasth Bhatnagar Sadar Sabha Hind by the dedicated efforts of a few philanthropists of the community. It is continuing to publish for more than 82 years now due to the relentless efforts of successive publishers and editors who have been unsparing in their efforts to uphold its tradition. It has seen many an ups and downs during its long journey. It has published a number of special issues full of information about the community.

The magazine has some life members and a number of annual subscribers. It also receives liberal donation from the well to do of the community. It however needs to broaden its subscriber base to increase it depth and reach within the folds of the Biradari.

Its annual subscription is only Rs.200 which can be sent to the office of “Bhatnagar Samachar” at: c/o Delhi Motor Company, 2773-74, Bhatnagar Building, Kashmere Delhi – 110006 by Money Order, Cheque or Demand Draft payable to “Bhatnagar Samachar”. Here is a good news: a new magazine titled as, “Bhatnagar Varta”  has been launched from Ghaziabad. Being published as a bilingual monthly magazine under the patronage of All India Kayastha Bhatnagar Sadar Sabha Hind, its three issues have come out till now for the months of August, September and October, 2009. Its November,2009 issue is in print and is expected to be out soon.

It’s annual subscription Rs.100 can be paid by Money Order, local or at par Cheque or Draft in favour of ‘Bhatnagar Varta’ and sent to Prabandhak, Bhatnagar Varta at the address: 11/208, Vasundhara, Ghaziabad – 201012, U.P. The price of a single issue has not been prescribed. The eMail ID of its subscription department is: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , while its Editorial Office can be contacted at eMail ID: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The get up of the magazine so far is pleasant, decent and sober; perfect for a family magazine that it is. The contents are informative as well as entertaining. Majority of the articles and write-ups are contributed and cover a wide variety of subjects and reflect the choice of the contributers.

Production is neat and clean and shows the professional touch throughout, which is praise worthy. Printing is good and eye soothing. On the whole all the three issues are excellent. It is hoped that the quality of printing and contents will retain its flavor in all the subsequent issues to come with the professional editorial team at its helm.

The Editorials are inspiring and show the vision, commitment and resolve behind the publication. It will not be out of place to quote here from the message of the Shri S.K.Kumar, President of the All India Kayastha Bhatnagar Sadar Sabha Hind published in the first issue of the magazine to put in perspective the objectives and tasks the publication has chosen for itself. Summing up the tasks before the publication he says,” We have an arduous task to uplift our Biradari, specially the youth, from the present indifference and, to a certain extent, alienation from the mainstream of the community and thenceforth the nation. We have to uproot the social evils, which have crept into the Biradari. And above all, we have to restore the glorious place that we have always held in the polity, administration, culture and ethics of our country. Our unity and creed of selfless service are the main requisites for accomplishment of this goal. These are some of the more important challenges ahead”. He further exhorts, “Let us
dedicate ourselves to this mission. The entire Executive of Kayasth Bhatnagaar Sadar Sabha Hind and All India Bhatnagar Upkarak Fund Trust need your support and understanding so that we may all contribute our might for the noble cause of brotherhood unity and oneness among all the members of our biradari. I am sure and hope Varta will succeed in the achievement of this pious aim with the support and cooperation of all Biradari Members”.

In our opinion it will be worth the while to subscribe to the magazine at the first available opportunity and cooperate and contribute in whatever which way we can with the publication to help it achieve the goals that it has set for itself. The cost is minimum and the contents rich. Moreover it is emerging as an important instrument of communication within the Members of the Biradari to which we belong.
